Choosing heating fuel for a pyrolysis plant requires more than comparing unit prices. Fuel availability, delivery cost, storage, burner compatibility, emission limits and maintenance all affect long-term operating cost.
Most waste pyrolysis plants use external fuel during start-up. Once the reactor produces stable non-condensable gas, the system can purify and return part of this gas to the burner. This reduces purchased fuel consumption. Some plants also reuse pyrolysis oil, although oil quality, burner design and local emission rules must support this route.
