Pyrolysis Oil to Diesel Refining Distillation Machine

A pyrolysis oil to diesel refining distillation machine is usually considered when crude pyrolysis oil sales are no longer enough to support a recycling project’s profit target. At this stage, project owners begin to look beyond oil yield and ask whether the recovered oil can enter higher-value fuel channels, reduce trading discounts and serve more stable industrial users.

lower odor & emission

Why Do Some Pyrolysis Projects Need Oil Upgrading?

Oil value depends on buyer acceptance

Buyers for wider industrial uses usually need better appearance, lower odor, more stable burning performance and easier storage.

Upgrading changes the product direction

It allows projects to move from crude oil sales to higher-value diesel fuel products and build more flexible sales models.

More stable industrial sales

Refined fuel can serve more industrial boilers, furnaces, generators, construction machinery and heavy-duty applications.

What Is a Pyrolysis Oil to Diesel Refining Distillation Machine?

Two distillation technology process routes are available

Other waste oils that can be processed

Besides pyrolysis oil, the machine can also be evaluated for used engine oil, waste motor oil, waste engine oil, motor oil, used lube oil, crude oil, black oil and other waste oil streams. This is especially useful for customers who already collect industrial waste oil, garage oil, machinery maintenance oil or mixed fuel oil from different sources. Before choosing acid-alkali washing or catalyst upgrading, the oil should be checked for water content, sediment, viscosity, sulfur, chlorine, wax and impurity level. Different oils should not be treated as the same material, because their refining behavior, residue amount and final fuel quality may vary greatly.

How Does Distillation Improve Oil Value?

What Affects the Investment Cost of a Pyrolysis Oil to Diesel Refining Machine?

Capacity should follow actual oil output, not only the feedstock capacity of the pyrolysis plant. For example, a 10TPD waste tire pyrolysis plant does not mean the investor needs a 10TPD oil distillation system. The better calculation should consider daily oil production, storage volume, working shifts, sales cycle and future expansion.

  • Small testing or pilot projects may start from 500kg, 1TPD or 3TPD, while commercial oil upgrading projects may evaluate 5TPD, 6TPD, 7TPD, 10TPD or 14TPD systems.
  • Higher capacity usually requires a larger reactor, stronger condensation system, bigger oil tanks and more complete safety control, so it has a direct impact on the final quotation.

Acid-alkali washing and catalyst process have different equipment requirements. The acid-alkali route may involve chemical washing, neutralization, filtration and residue handling, while the catalyst route may need catalyst tanks, reaction control and a more process-oriented purification design.

Pyrolysis oil with high water content, heavy sediment, wax, sulfur, chlorine or unstable composition may need additional settling, dehydration, filtration or pretreatment before distillation. Cleaner feed oil usually makes the refining process easier to control.

Reactor steel, thickness, heating method, heat transfer efficiency and service life all affect cost. A stronger heating system can improve distillation efficiency, while better reactor material can support safer and more stable long-term operation.

A complete line may include condenser, oil-gas separation, deodorization, decolorization, filtration, catalyst treatment, exhaust gas treatment and dust control. These systems increase the initial investment, but they also affect final oil quality, workplace safety and environmental compliance.

Manual operation, semi-automatic control and higher automation levels require different electrical systems, pumps, valves, sensors and control cabinets. Installation guidance, commissioning, operator training, spare parts and layout design also change the total project cost.
