How Can a Pyrolysis Plant Generate Electricity?
Pyrolysis creates two main fuel routes that may support power generation.
A compatible heavy-oil generator may use pyrolysis oil when its engine and burner system match the oil’s viscosity, impurities and combustion characteristics. The project must also meet local emission requirements.
Raw pyrolysis oil may contain water, fine carbon particles and unstable fractions. After condensation removes liquid oil, the remaining non-condensable gas still carries useful energy. Most commercial plants return this gas to the reactor burner because internal heating usually creates greater savings than electricity generation.
A gas generator becomes practical only when the plant produces a stable gas volume and includes suitable purification, buffering, pressure control and safety protection. Gas composition and calorific value must also remain within the generator’s operating range.
